You Only Get One

I ran into an old foe last week. This old foe popped up one day last week and tried to weasel its way right back into my life. I wasn’t about to let that happen, so I reached out to a couple of friends and asked for some prayer. This old foe of mine was relentless and continued to fight for my attention day in and day out. Each time it popped up in my face, I went to God in prayer. I was praying near constantly the whole time thinking that I was being a good little Christian and praying without ceasing like the Bible tells me to. Then God stepped in and showed me how wrong I was.

Joy.

It is such a small word, but it carries such a big feeling. It’s funny. Joy is one of those words that we really only talk about during the Christmas season, and for many of us, that is the hardest time to feel joy. Christmas time is not always the most wonderful time of the year for people. Many people feel increased anxiety this time of year. Many people feel extremely lonely this time of year. Many people would probably say that they have a hard time feeling joy this time of year. So how do we find joy in the midst of loss, anxiety, and loneliness this time of year?
