The 5-Minute Rhythm

Start with a passage of Scripture like Luke 24:13–35.

Each day, read a small section slowly.

Ask yourself:

  • Where is Jesus in this story?

  • What is He trying to form in me?

  • What does this mean for my life today?

Then say a short prayer in response. “Jesus, I don’t always recognize You walking with me—but I want to. Help me slow down and see You today. Amen.”

The S.O.A.P. Bible Study Method

The S.O.A.P. method is a straightforward and effective approach to Bible study, designed to help individuals engage deeply with Scripture and apply its teachings to daily life. The acronym S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Here's a breakdown of each component:

S – Scripture

Begin by selecting a passage of Scripture that resonates with you. Read it carefully, and then write down the verse or verses that stand out. Highlight any words or phrases that are particularly meaningful or impactful.

O – Observation

Reflect on what you've read. Ask yourself questions such as:

  • What is the main message of this passage?

  • Are there any commands, instructions, or warnings?

  • What truths can I learn from this?

  • What is God revealing to me through His Word?

A – Application

Consider how the passage applies to your life. Think about:

  • How can I implement these teachings in my daily routine?

  • Are there any changes I need to make in my behavior or attitude?

  • What lessons can I take away from this reading?

P – Prayer

Conclude your study with a prayer. Thank God for the insights you've gained, and ask for His guidance in applying these truths to your life. Seek His wisdom and strength to live out His Word daily.

The Rhythm of Formation: Scripture

The way the digital age has rewired our brains is at odds with how Scripture was designed to be read. In the age of skimming and scrolling, how do we read Scripture in such a way that we meet God and become like him?
